What can you do with Google+?

Google+ is designed to connect your organization around shared interests, helping you collaborate with team members. Trade insights with communities, poll your organization, share posts, and more.

Important: This guide covers only the web version of Google+.

Set up your profile

Your Google+ profile consists of information about you (such as your name and job title), posts you’ve made to Google+, and more to help people know who you are and what your interests are.

In most cases, your G Suite domain administrator will have already created a profile for you. If they haven't, you can create your own profile. If you don't have access to Google+ at all, contact your G Suite admin. They may have to turn it on in the Google Admin console first.

In this section, you learn how to:

Create a profile

  1. Go to Google+.
  2. Click Join Google+.
  3. Sign in to your G Suite account. Sign in using your work account (does not end in @gmail.com).
  4. Follow the steps on the Join Google+ page.

Update your profile

  1. From the main menu, click Profile.
  2. Click EDIT PROFILE.
  3. Choose an option:
    • Select the communities you want to show on your profile page.
    • Click Camera photo_camera to change your profile or cover photo.
    • Click Information info_outline to change your personal information.
    • Click Save.

Update your personal information

    1. From the main menu, click Profile.
    2. Click your profile name, or click About. You can also go to aboutme.google.com.
    3. In the section you want to update, click Edit edit.

      Note: If the Information info_outline icon appears in a section, you can’t update that content. contact your G Suite admin for permission.

    4. Click OK.

Change your settings

Control who can comment on your posts, when to get notifications, and more.

  1. From the main menu, click Settings.
  2. Change any settings.

Changes automatically update and save, unless confirmation is required.

Post and share content

Share insights, collaborate with team members, or get feedback on your ideas with Google+ posts.

In this section, you learn how to:

Share posts

You can choose who you share posts with by sharing posts to Communities, or with people. When you share a post, anyone who follows you and has permission to see the post can see it in their streams. Posts you share can also show on your profile.

Share a post:

  1. Open a community that you belong to, or go to your Home page.
  2. In the bottom right, click Write edit.
  3. Enter your post.
  4. (Optional) Choose an option:
    • To share a photo, click Camera photo_camera.
    • To share a link, click Link link.
    • To create a poll, click Poll poll.
    • To share a Google Drive file, click Add Google Drive file attach_drive
    • To share your location, click Location location_on.
  5. Next to your name is the audience you’ll share your post with. (Your administrator may set the default option to your domain.) To change who you want to share the post with, click the blue text.
  6. Click POST.

Reshare someone else’s post:

  1. On the post you want to reshare, click Share share.

    Note: If you don't see the Share icon, it means the person who made the post chose to not let people reshare it, or it's in a private community. You can't share private posts publicly.

  2. (Optional) Enter a post.
  3. Next to your name is the audience you’ll share your post with. (Your admin may set the default option to your domain.) To change who you want to share the post with, click the blue text.
  4. Click POST.

Comment on a post

You can comment on your own posts and on posts that other people share. Unless, blocked, anyone who can see the post can also see your comment. To like or agree with something, use the plus_one button.

  1. On the post you want to comment on, click in the comment field.
  2. Enter your comment.
  3. Click Post.

Like someone’s post:

Click plus_one. To remove a like, click plus_one again.

Edit or delete a post or comment

  1. Point at the post or comment you want to edit or delete.
  2. Click More more_vert > choose an option:

    • Click Edit post or Edit. Make your changes and click Save or Update.
    • Click Delete or Delete comment and then Delete again to confirm.

Follow people

Follow people you know.

In this section, you learn how to:

Find and follow people

When you follow someone on Google+, their posts appear in your stream.

  1. Do one of these actions to open the profile of the person you want to follow:
    • Search for their name.
    • Click their photo next to a comment or post.
  2. Click Follow.

Stop following someone:

  1. From the main menu, click People.
  2. At the top, click Following.
  3. Under the person’s name, click Following.
  4. Uncheck the Following box.
  5. Click Done.

Create communities

Create communities for your project teams or for colleagues with common interests. Several people can own or moderate a community, and anyone in the community can post to it.

Note: You can only create public, private, or “ask to join” communities within your domain. Outside your domain, you can only create private communities. You can no longer create public communities, but you can still interact with existing public communities.

In this section, you learn how to:

Create a community

Create different types of communities based on your goals. You can share ideas and announcements with your team, or connect with co-workers that share the same interests as you do.

  1. From the main menu, click Communities.
  2. Click New Community. Or, if you have no communities yet, click Create Community.
  3. Enter a name for your community and choose who can see it.
  4. (Optional) To specify other settings, click More Options.
  5. Click Done.

Find and join a community

When you join a community, you can see posts from that community in your stream and share posts to the community.

Find a community:

  1. From the main menu, click Communities.
  2. (Optional) To see recommended communities, at the bottom, click Discover More.
  3. Use the search bar to search for communities by name.
  4. (Optional) To find out more about a community, click it.

Join a community:

Click Join (or Ask To Join for communities that require permission). If you’ve been invited to join a private community, click Decline or Accept.

Note: If you join a restricted community (indicated by the building icon business), only G Suite users in your domain can see your posts and view membership. G Suite users outside your domain can be members of a non-restricted community.

Leave a community:

  1. Open the community you want to leave.
  2. Click More more_vert and click Leave Community.
  3. Click Leave to confirm.

Invite people to join a community

Invite people on Google+:

  1. Open the community you want to invite someone to.
  2. Click Invite person_add > Invite people on Google+.
  3. Use Search to find people.
  4. Click Done.
  5. (Optional) Add a message.
  6. Click Post.

Invite people with a link:

If you invite someone who doesn’t have a Google+ profile, they need to have a G Suite account to create one.

  1. Open the community you want to invite someone to.
  2. Click Invite person_add > Invite people with a link.
  3. Turn on Allow invites by link.
  4. Click Copy.
  5. Send the link to the people or groups you want to invite.

If Google+ is limited to your organization, only members of your organization can access the link.

Promote members to moderators or owners of your community:

  1. Open the community.
  2. Click More more_vert > Manage members.
  3. Next to the person you want to make a moderator or owner, click
    More more_vert and choose Promote from member to moderator or Promote from moderator to owner.

If you don't want someone to be a moderator or owner of your community anymore, follow the steps above, but choose Demote from moderator to member or Demote from owner to moderator.

4.4

Update a community

Owners or moderators of communities can update them at any time. Change the cover photo, title, category filters, and more.

  1. Open the community.
  2. Click More more_vert > Edit Community.
  3. Make any of the following changes:

    • Click Camera photo_camera to change the cover photo.
    • Click the title to change it.
    • Click under the title to add or change a tagline.
    • Turn on Ask to join to require that people ask before joining the community.
    • Turn on Hold posts for review to review posts before they're submitted.
    • Turn on Content controls to use stronger content controls (reduces spam or inappropriate content).
    • Add or change a description.
    • Under Categories, click Add add and type a category name, or click an existing name to change it.
    • Under Links, click Add add and type a URL, or click an existing link to change it.
  4. Click Done.

4.5

Remove posts or people

Owners or moderators can remove posts, comments, or people from the community. If someone leaves your team, you can remove them from the team’s community.

Remove a post or comment:

  1. Open the post or comment you want to remove from your community.
  2. Click More more_vert > Remove comment or Remove post.

Removing a post or comment removes it only from the community. Posts might still be seen on the creator’s profile or if they were reshared to another community.

Remove or ban a person from a community:

  1. Open the community.
  2. Click More more_vert > Manage members.
  3. Next to the person you want to remove or ban, click More more_vert and choose Ban from Community or Remove from Community.

If you remove a person, they leave the community, but they can join it again if they want to. To prevent them from joining again, you can ban them. If you change your mind, you can un-ban them.

4.6

Delete a community

Note: Only the owner of a community can delete it. Moderators can’t delete a community.

  1. Open the community you want to delete.
  2. Click More more_vert > Delete Community.
