I wanted to do a simple search and replace of one font for another. It couldn't find any text in the font to be replaced. I used a regular expression search of "\(.*\)" and replaced it with "\1", specifying the fonts to be changed. It always said the text was not found.

It's a scam! I trie and replace "_" text with "_" text (both the of the same font, one underlined) and it *literally* replaced *every* "_" with "_"!!!! (i.e. "______" would be replaced with a single "_" per set of "_"s)!!!! >:O

Looks like you are a novice and no sufficient knowledge. I replicated the same and it works as it is supposed to be. I think you had made no effort to contact the developer. Don't post such comments here. You prove that you are a fool without contacting support. For me the developer was so much helpful and I myself wouldn't have provided such a awesome support if I was at his place. Be sensible!!!

The regex does not work. You only get 30 searches before you have to pay and each time the search function returns a 'not found' counts as a search so you can't trial and error the regex. Waste of time.

Make sure your check the regex supported. There is a info icon in the search box, you will know the list of supported regular expressions. Google has a different library when compared to standard ESMA 6 specification. Try contacting the support, I think Developer can help you solve your use case.

In the find textbook enter the comma symbol then click on "change formatting" and select the \n in the replace textbox with the regex checkbox ticked (below replace) and hit replace button.

It barely has anything more than regular find and replace. I just want the ability to search within a range instead of the whole document.

I think you are unaware of the existing functionality. Select the block of text and then perform find and replace. This will do a replace in the selected range. Hope this helps! If you need any help, please contact support. Will be happy yo help.

This is a great add-on. Darren has the best customer service. I asked him how to do a specific function and he made me a video on how to do what I needed and sent me several other videos that are very helpful.

I use it for the some of the basic Find & Replace operations that Docs doesn't offer. Others have pointed out some weaknesses, but it has greatly helped with my large document work. Developer is amazingly fast and helpful when requesting assistance.

It works, but with limitations. Not as robust as Word's Advanced Find and Replace. Also, the UI is a little awkward, but it adds something that should be a basic included functionality in Google Docs.

Can you expand on what is not as robust as Word's advanced find and replace?

there's a trial that limits to thirty uses... Don't know what is supposed to happen after that but is almost useless and is just as fast to do it yourself. Didn't get or see an option to pay for it either.

You can upgrade to premium from Add-ons -> Advanced Find & Replace -> Upgrade to premium. As of time of this writing, it was $6 for an individual license and $30 for a domain-wide license. That is pretty great pricing in my view. I'll have to try out the regular expression implementation.

This is basically a tool for things like bolding particular words and phrases, but it isn't really "Advanced". The formatting options are essentially B/I/U. It does not allow you to turn words or phrases into titles, subtitles, or headings. Its support for regular expressions is also poor, so that you cannot, say, match groups of characters and move them around, like matching all characters before and after a comma and reversing them, which is to say you can't match (LAST), (FIRST) and then reformat the line to read FIRST LAST. It also provides no way to match a subset of a phrase (in my case, all text between colons) and then preserve just the match in the replacement. So, not bad for what it does -- bulk bolding and italicizing -- but what it does is less than the name suggests.
