Overview
Asana for Gmail helps you turn emails into tasks with assigned responsibilities and due dates, right from within your inbox.
Asana is the best way to manage your tasks and projects, and now you can use it to turn emails into tasks without leaving your Gmail inbox.

Email is great for communication but it wasn’t built for tracking to-dos or managing projects. When you turn your emails into tasks and track them in Asana with your teammates, everyone knows who is doing what, and by when.

With Asana for Gmail you can
-Turn an email into a task, assign it to yourself or a teammate, set a due date, add it to a project, and include attachments.
-Track the task in Asana with your teammates as part of project planning
-See any updates to synced tasks made within Asana without leaving email
-Search for and reference existing tasks in Asana without leaving email

Asana is the easiest way for teams to plan, manage, and track their work—so you know who’s doing what by when. It’s free & simple to get started, and powerful enough to run your entire business. Visit us at www.asana.com

Note for Admins: Google doesn't currently allow GSuite Admins to install Gmail Add-Ons. We will provide an update on this feature as soon as the support is added, and we will update the listing as soon as we're able to offer this add-on to our admin users as well.

Positives: it technically connects Asana and Gmail in the same window. Negatives: it's not really much time savings between just copying the email over to Asana in a different window. The app doesn't load available projects (you have to search for them by name--searching for nothing does not return any results, also you have to physically CLICK the search button), there's no single click email followup to default project task creation, it takes a weird amount of time to load through, and there's no Asana/task functionality in the email window itself that allow for any shortcutting (right hand menu bar app only) I'll keep using it until I find something better, which will likely be a 3rd party app or maybe browser widget at this point.

No luck either. I have a few gmail accounts and it works with one but not the other. I hope they look into this as I really need this to be working!

The add-on shows in the right side panel of Gmail. If you don't see the panel hit the < at the bottom right corner of your G-mail screen. Then panel opens and Asana is the 3 orange circles.

same issue - downloaded and it's active in the Add-on section but not showing up in emails. this is a huge plus and could be a deal breaker

The app seems great; however, once I download it there is no where to open it.

So, this does two things: 1) Limited access to Asana Task-Creation from within a Gmail sidebar. Useful if you're trying to solve the huge problem of how to tab over to Asana after reading an email 2) Allows you to create a Task with the text of an email attached as a comment. Useful if you find yourself copying an entire email, tabbing over to Asana to create a task, but by the time you get there, you can't remember what the task was. Feature requests: - Create tasks based on *attachments* - Autocomplete for Project name - Autocomplete for Assignee - Pressing enter in the search bar executes a search (!)

being able to assign based on emails is great, but I hope you add a feature for duplicating existing tasks when creating a task

I am trying this as an alternate to google Tasks within my gmail. I would not recommend this unless you plan to use the separate Asana tool outside of gmail. I was able to create tasks from emails within gmail, but it takes more steps than Tasks. It then becomes a void where your task exists on the separate tool, but from within gmail, there is no evidence that you created a task of any sort. So, the separate Asana website/tool whatever works fine, but this gmail app plug-in seems to exist exclusively to allow you to create a task while a specific email is open, and that is ALL. I wish the gmail plug-in was at least minimally as functional as the Tasks tool.
