Overview
Asana for Gmail helps you turn emails into tasks with assigned responsibilities and due dates, right from within your inbox.
Asana is the best way to manage your tasks and projects, and now you can use it to turn emails into tasks without leaving your Gmail inbox.

Email is great for communication but it wasn’t built for tracking to-dos or managing projects. When you turn your emails into tasks and track them in Asana with your teammates, everyone knows who is doing what, and by when.

With Asana for Gmail you can
-Turn an email into a task, assign it to yourself or a teammate, set a due date, add it to a project, and include attachments.
-Track the task in Asana with your teammates as part of project planning
-See any updates to synced tasks made within Asana without leaving email
-Search for and reference existing tasks in Asana without leaving email

Asana is the easiest way for teams to plan, manage, and track their work—so you know who’s doing what by when. It’s free & simple to get started, and powerful enough to run your entire business. Visit us at www.asana.com

Note for Admins: Google doesn't currently allow GSuite Admins to install Gmail Add-Ons. We will provide an update on this feature as soon as the support is added, and we will update the listing as soon as we're able to offer this add-on to our admin users as well.

So, this does two things: 1) Limited access to Asana Task-Creation from within a Gmail sidebar. Useful if you're trying to solve the huge problem of how to tab over to Asana after reading an email 2) Allows you to create a Task with the text of an email attached as a comment. Useful if you find yourself copying an entire email, tabbing over to Asana to create a task, but by the time you get there, you can't remember what the task was. Feature requests: - Create tasks based on *attachments* - Autocomplete for Project name - Autocomplete for Assignee - Pressing enter in the search bar executes a search (!)

being able to assign based on emails is great, but I hope you add a feature for duplicating existing tasks when creating a task

I am trying this as an alternate to google Tasks within my gmail. I would not recommend this unless you plan to use the separate Asana tool outside of gmail. I was able to create tasks from emails within gmail, but it takes more steps than Tasks. It then becomes a void where your task exists on the separate tool, but from within gmail, there is no evidence that you created a task of any sort. So, the separate Asana website/tool whatever works fine, but this gmail app plug-in seems to exist exclusively to allow you to create a task while a specific email is open, and that is ALL. I wish the gmail plug-in was at least minimally as functional as the Tasks tool.

Pretty barebones in its implementation. It allows you to add new tasks, which is useful. But it is excruciatingly slow, and unlike some other Gmail add-ons, it doesn't cache any information. That means that every time you add a task, you need to search for both assignee and the project to which you want to add a task. You do this separately, and each search takes between 5-15 seconds. This is silly. It should cache the most recent handful of projects you added tasks to, and the most recent individuals you want to assign something to. I expect more from a product as widely used as Asana.

Facing the same issue. Very helpful feature but it will take less time to actually open asana and copy-paste the task rather than using this plugin :(

Does not allow you to transfer info from an email over to an account. Total waste of time.

UX is pretty terrible. You can't add emails to existing tasks. The search is slow and you can't save project or assignee preferences so you have to reenter them every time. No ability to add tags and I don't get the point of being able to search for an existing task and then not being able to do anything with that task other than adding a comment. That said, pinning the emails to a new task is very useful and I hope they finish this tool. It could be great but it feels very unpolished.

It will not allow me to sign in. I keep getting an error message after I attempt to sign into Asana as directed. I see the add-on but it just isn't working. I am using Chrome; is this an issue?

It simply doesn't show up in my Gmail. We have enabled the domain-wide access from within our admin account.

It's nested in the "side panel", accessible as a pull out button in the bottom right corner of your browser.
