Overview
Auto-import live bank transactions directly into your spreadsheet. Work with your own live bank data. No more manual exports or copying and pasting from CSV files.
BudgetSheet is a Google Sheets add-on that can link to your bank to import live transaction data directly into your spreadsheet.

NO user accounts or signup required. NO external web service you are forced to use. Everything happens directly in your spreadsheet via the add-on.

You will need a Plaid account (it's free for up to 5 different financial institutions) to link your bank account(s) for transaction imports. Instructions on how to set this up and link it are in the add-on setup process.

BudgetSheet Free allows you to use all the add-on features for free with one (1) bank account linked. BudgetSheet Pro (paid) allows you to link unlimited bank accounts. Upgrade via the add-on menu to go Pro.

After some confusion with Plaid - the bank API, I got the system working on my Charity Accounts with a view to using the feed in an existing system which works similarly to BudgetSheet but for full charity funds accounting. However the category allocation requires much work and the feed is limited by not including the cumulative balance by transaction. I will give it 5* if I can work with them to adjust the feed.

It worked great, and I was able to highly customize my budget, layout and many other items which we are unable to do in traditional budgeting platforms. However, out of the blue, the transactions all of the sudden stopped working all together. I submitted a email to the developer and he was super helpful in helping trouble shoot. Turned out I broke the formula, we adjusted and fixed it.

It's a very robust, well-designed spreadsheet. Installing and setting up were actually rather easy (at least for me; I read the others stating they needed help); I found it pretty straightforward setting up Plaid, but you FIRST must request that your account be approved (it's free) through the Plaid website. That took them less than 24 hours, and I requested access on Easter Sunday. The issue I have with it is the complete lack of documentation. Specifically, when it downloads the bank information, it auto-assigns a category to each transaction and often incorrectly. I've searched through the sheet programming and can find nothing that indicates that the selection is made in the spreadsheet, so it leads me to the conclusion it is being drawn into the spreadsheet this way? Is there no way to change this programming?

The set up was going smooth but I received an "internal" error when trying to link my bank account. through the "add on" menu in google sheets. Any ideas?

Had the same problem. After creating a Plaid account, you will need to wait for approval. Typically takes <1 business day. Once you receive an email from them that you've been approved, you should be able to link your account.

I found Plaid fairly easy to set up, and BudgetSheet too, and set up conections to three accounts at my bank. A quick test worked, so I upgraded to the Pro version so that I could import data from multiple sources.(the free version only supports one account). From there on BudgetSheet repeatedly failed to import any data at all, saying that my login credentials to the bank had changed. SO I reinstalled the bank accounts. My passwords, etc., were all accepted and the accounts set up - but once agin BudgetSheet could not actually import any data, still telling me that my login details were out of date.

don't bother unless you have experience with Plaid and want to attempt lots of trial and error to figure out how to get BudgetSheet working. Needs a tutorial for the tutorial.

Incredible. Does what it says it does and works. Easy auto-import of bank transactions. I also tested Tiller (a paid option) and am cancelling because this is all I need for 1 account. Better documentation would be a good addition here as the Plaid connection part is not that intuitive. A user guide would have saved a ton of time and given more confidence this would work out

I don't have to manually import bank transactions anymore! BudgetSheet helps me clearly see where all my money is going, and also lets me do anything I want with my own bank data. Pivot tables, charts, etc. are all easy when all my transactions are in a regular spreadsheet.
