Flat for Docs
Add music notation to your documents using Flat's editor in Google Docs and Google Slides. Use Flat's web-based music notation editor to quickly create music notation or tablature for your Google Docs. This add-on is a lite version of our web-based & collaborative notation software (https://flat.io), and doesn't include all the options available in our dedicated tool. The notation inserted in your document works like a picture and doesn't have our playback included (you can still play it later, simply select the inserted image and open the add-on again). Please let us know if you have any feedback (google-docs@flat.io).

This is a great add-on for music educators to use. It is user friendly, but put a little time aside to experiment with the multiple options available. This is Google's version of Finale or Sibelius (Lite); very basic and no altering instrument sounds. Definitely using instead of cut paste in Word or hand writing from now on.

Really nice little snippet. Suggestions: to be able to hide barlines, and to have some degree of layout control like number of bars per system... Otherwise, great job!

It appears it can't save more than 12 bars. Also, it doesn't break bars to page width, i.e. all in one line. So, I think this add-on is acceptable, if you only want a very short piece, maybe 4 or 5 bars.

Thanks for your feedback, Paulos. This is indeed an add-on to insert small snippets of music notation into your Google Docs documents. However, there is no limit on the number of bars you can add. If a bar is not added automatically, you can use "Measure > [+]" to insert extra bars. If you want to create complete sheet music, you can create a free Flat account at https://flat.io and use the complete version of our product.

Oh fun! This is a perfect fit for the occasional line of music that I wish I could drop in documents. I might even use this for a simple song project I have in mind. Things I like + It plays the pitch as you add notes + It has a playback feature as long as you are in edit mode. + Lyrics? YES!!! + Once the music is inserted in the document it behaves like a drawing, meaning you can move it about and select the kind of word wrap you want, or resize it. + Tempo mark and measure numbering are default features. + You can go back and edit after inserting + Notation beyond notes and rhythms includes articulation, ornaments, dynamics, and text tools for lyrics, directions, and chords. + You can even add second voices. And a third? Limitations - No pop ups on buttons. I guess we are expected to know what the buttons are for, which likely any musician who has ever used any score-writing software can figure out. - Cannot copy scores from one doc to another. Attempting to do so yields a blank drawing. Sad. - No playback in the doc. That would just be a really cool bonus. I'm sure I'll be using this add-on.

How do you put in lyrics?

Thanks a lot for your feedback, Scott! We updated the add-on this month with some improvements, including tooltips with the tool names. Regarding the ability to copy from one doc to another, that's something planned for the future :) For the playback in the Docs, unfortunately Google Docs doesn't allow to do it. Feel free to send a feedback to their team (Help > Report a problem/feedback).

Could you please add a way to make blank ones with nothing, like I can do with the one I used to use.

Very fast to insert musical snippets. Intuitive. I can't find a way to edit inserted snippets though.

Im pretty sure that once you have put in a snippet, you have to either start over or maybe just click back on flat, and edit it again?

Hi Linda, to edit a snippet, select the insert notation and re-open the add-on :)

I really like it but I ran into a thing where it dose not show the variation of notes on the top.

Even in its infancy this concept is awesome!
