Overview
formRanger allows you to auto-populate the choices in list, multiple choice, checkbox or grid question options from columns of data in any Google Sheet or Doctopus roster.

Great for ensuring form choices match values in an existing database of records, such as students, inventory items, expected attendees, workshop or session titles, etc. -- useful for then applying matching formulas such as COUNTIF, VLOOKUP, MATCH, and others.

Can be set to repopulate options on form submit -- opening the possibility of (somewhat) dynamic form options provided you are willing to explore spreadsheet formulas. For example, use spreadsheet formulas like IF and COUNTIF in the form spreadsheet to produce a "shrinking" list of options with availability. Likewise, produce a "growing" list of checkbox options by applying the UNIQUE formula to a list of open-ended submissions, leaving the "other" checkbox option turned on.

For users of the popular Doctopus Add-on for sheets, formRanger includes rosters (student name lists) automatically.

Wonderful product. Use it with a large number of people populating the form. Over 400 access the form and I dynamically update the form each submission.

This was a 5 star app for the old forms - works well. If you are using the new forms... it does not work! (Or only partially works... which is even worse--- Unreliable results.) If you keep your form in the old format... I think you will be fine using this add-on. This really needs to be updated, but unfortunately Andrew Stillman (The developer) has moved onto another company. PLEASE UPDATE THIS! Thanks!

it was a fantastic product and then problems. some time ago the auto repopulate stopped working. at the support site they seem to be ignoring the issue, no updates, not work arounds, not even an admission of the problem (that I can find).

love it, use it all the time! Wish the box to utilize it was a bit bigger or at least able to be made bigger. When you've got 20+ different questions to apply it to, it gets a bit cramped to manage! Also wish there were other options for setting the refresh, like when the form goes from Close to Open. But over all, LOVE IT!

It works very well for external data sources that do not change very often. However, it did not work in my application because the data source list may change in between form submissions. By this I mean... a form would have the right choices, the form would be submitted - at THAT POINT the form is repopulated, then the external list would change, then next time the form load it still has the OLD list from the external source. If this add-on queried the external source every time a form was loaded it would be PERFECT - unfortunately it does not. I understand it would increase load times for forms, but for people with dynamic external sources this really is a must to ensure the correct list items are piped into the form. Makes me sad that it doesn't query every time the form loads :(

I have the same issue as Frank- I see it here, it says it is "installed" but it is not with my current add-ons, nor can I find it on the add-on store. How did you get it onto your forms?

+1000 for this, basically worthless to me without a trigger on form OPEN not SUBMIT.

Hi Brock, I'm trying to add this FormRanger AddOn to my form but it is not visible in the addon store ?!? How did you get it (recently?) kind regards Frank

Not for me. I have a response where the potential responses is infinite but I wanted to see a number of times each response was repeated. This sounded like it would be a fit. Since text responses are not supported, I was unable to use.

Great feature. Google should adopt it as a standard feature of Google Docs if you ask me.
