Overview
GA Management Magic
---------
The Google Analytics Management API can be accessed through a Google Sheet to list and update settings data in a tabular format. This application lists management entities from Google Analytics into your sheet, and allows you to update settings based on edits or additions in your sheet.

##Working with Custom Dimensions in Google Sheets
####Listing Custom Dimensions
To list custom dimensions from a property (or list of properties), run the __List custom dimensions__ command from the add-on menu. At the prompt, enter one or more property ID(s) from which to list custom dimension settings in your sheet.

A new sheet will be added, formatted, and populated with the values from the properties listed.

If you update any of these values, you can update the custom dimensions in your property by running the __Update custom dimensions__ function from the add-on menu.

####Updating Custom Dimensions
To update custom dimension settings within a property or list of properties, run the __Update custom dimensions__ command from the add-on menu.

If you do not have a pre-formatted sheet, the script will format a new sheet for you into which you can enter your custom dimension settings.
---------
##Working with Filters in Google Sheets
####Listing Filters
To list filters from an account, run the __List filters__ command from the add-on menu. Enter one or more account ID(s) from which to list settings.

A new sheet will be added, formatted, and populated with the filter values from the account.

If you modify any of these values, you can update the filters in your account by running the __Update filters__ function from the add-on menu.

####Updating Filters
To update filter settings from the sheet to an account or list of accounts, run the __Update filters__ command from the add-on menu. At the prompt, enter the account IDs (separated by commas) of the accounts that should be updated with the filter settings in your sheet.

I've released a new version of the add-on that should fix all previous known issues. The new version also adds filter and metric functionality - hope you like it!

Doesn't appear to work anymore. At least, the update filter feature doesn't do anything.

So far so good in my effort to manage ONE property's custom dimensions. Pedro--I could not figure out how to publish a set of custom dimensions to multiple properties. I tried comma delimiting the property IDs with and without spaces, but got an error when I ran the update. Is it possible to publish dimensions to multiple properties from one sheet? Thanks, Nate UPDATE: It appears the only way to publish custom dimensions for multiple properties at a time is to copy and paste into separate rows and change property IDs. That's not a huge deal, except that we've started getting this message now that we have several rows we try to publish: "failed to update all dimensions Quota Error: You have exceeded the maximum number of writes/day for this project." So for larger efforts this tool has it's limits. UPDATE2: Tried publishing a batch of 184 Custom Dimensions on one of our accounts today (11/2/2017) and got a new message: "Failed to insert all dimensions Quota Error: Rate limit for writes exceeded." This tool is breaking my heart.

The quota error will be Sheets or Analytics API quota. It could happen on small or large batches because it's not related to the number in that batch but the number per day or per minute or second. Try waiting and trying again. Potentially you can also sign up for credits with the API

@ John Sharman--I've found this tool to be spotty as I've tried to make use of it. Sometimes I can publish a bunch of CD's at once, sometimes I get the quota error on a small batch. @Pedro--I got the quota error today on just an attempted update of just under 30 CD's. I know I've done +100 before with no problem. Something to maybe check into. Also, how long is the quota period supposed to be (i.e. when does my quota reset so I can try again)? It's been at least a few weeks since updating anything so I was surprised to get that message today. Last question is around sheet structure. I've kept all the historical rows from past CD updates to keep on record, but just un-check the left column. Any new CD's I just add to the bottom of the list, check the left box, and then update with the add-on. Will your script ignore the unchecked rows, or does it process through those as well? Just thinking this could this be why I'm getting the Quota Limit message so often. Appreciate your thoughts. Nate

You've proceeded correctly - as for the error, that's a limit of the API. I've requested to have the write quota increased, so users should see this message less and less (hopefully not at all!). Please let me know if it persists!

Did you find any work around in the end?

I can't make it work. When listing filters I enter only the middle part (i.e. 123456) of UA-123456-12. Otherwise I get an error. Also, how to push the filters to another account? I tried just changing the ID and using update feature but I get "ReferenceError: "account" is not defined" every single time.

I had the exact same issue. It does not appear capable of copying/uploading filter definitions to a new account/profile, making it fairly useless for my needs.

Awesome add-on! The only issue is the Quota Error, is there a way to install the add-on "locally" that way I can use my own Google Cloud quota instead of a shared one that I believe this add-on is using? Thanks in advanced!

Glad you like it! And yes, there is a way to install it 'locally' - see the github repo readme file for more on how to do that: https://github.com/narcan/api-tools/tree/master/GA%20Management%20Magic

Useful add-on and previous issues mentioned seem to be resolved. We have tweaked the scripts slightly for our situation but a great tool overall!

Awesome at first. I gave it one star because I cannot update custom dimensions.I don't think it's the developers fault I think Google may have changed API>
