I currently don't have use for this but I will soon enough which is why I've downloaded it... Looking at some other reviews I see that some are saying theres too much going on in one area, well that's probably because you're not a dev (developer) and not used to seeing great lumps of text or punctuation; like semi colons. And I've seen many saying they thought this app was for screen play, well the title doesn't suggest that at all, I must be blind if others can see it stating 'screen play', it does say "Google Apps" script, you know, scripting for Google Apps? The description can explain a lot if you read them... However, this app does have much potential, and I can see this coming of use to me very soon, so thanks for the great app "Google Apps" Scripting.

If you know HTML, then using this app from Google is simple and easy to use. Just run a simple function that Google provides and use it. Even if you are not great with JavaScript, it is still a great, free tool for developers.

Landing page is absolutely beautiful. Can't remember ever seeing google dev looking that good. The designers must have taken a wrong turn. Got really excited to see the urlshortener, as I've been thinking about making one recently. I don't get it though.. using the google shortener brand instead of taking that chance to promote your own seems kind of silly. Being able to connect you're own domain would make that wayyyy more attractive.

I don't have a ton of scripting experience, but so far I've been able to get the task at hand done. This is a really nice tool to have to be able to write my scripts and be able to download them on any computer I need them on. Have been able to write a couple of Google Apps scripts as well. So far I would say this is a great tool to have in the cloud.

Reading the comments here is a baffling experience. Most people seem not to grasp what Apps Script is or what it is used for, so it seems bizarre to give it a low rating it on that basis. I have found the Apps Script development environment to be simple and effective. There are some nice features in there beyond the obvious syntax highlighting, automatic indentation etc. The debugger works well (although it could be made more prominent for beginners) in comparison to the tools found in modern browsers; the execution transcript is helpful; automatic versioning works well; the libraries feature could do with a little more love, but at least works reliably with a little effort up front. Until recently the Apps Script documentation was good as well, but it has become unnavigable since the recent move to the perturbing purple pages which is a shame. Overall I'd say the editor is a good product and many of the issues I have when using it are problems with the platform (very slow processing on some APIs even with a paid-for Google Apps account) and with the API itself (e.g. inconsistency [Spreadsheet API], daft names [Spreadsheet API again], incompleteness [Fusion Tables API] etc..)

Javascript? Hosted and run by Google? Plus an extensive API for Google Drive and other Google services? I think I'm in love. The only downside to this app is that I didn't find it sooner.

used it since 2012, great tools to streamline biz processes, and indeed if you spend time on it, you can even develop very astonishing web applications. My whole company is running on applications I developed with Google APP script. Only limit is its quota and execution time limit which made complex process has limited resources to work with for each execution (i have to use trigger to re-lunch unfinished process). Overall, great tools if you want to proof test your application ideas, etc..

Extraordinary capabilities and potential coupled with near total neglect from Google over the years. The promo video is from 2012 and some of the features shown like the UI service are no longer supported. Hopefully the App Maker and Gmail addons that Google announced will improve things going forward.

Great idea, but not even ready for beta status, let alone release. Google have clearly lost interest in this as basic and simple to fix bugs have remained for years. It's a shame, because it holds a lot of promise, but Google can't expect anyone to invest any effort into it if they wont themselves.

I'm not very impressed. This app appeared when I searched for Google Drive apps that could view JSON files. I connected the app to my Google Drive, then attempted to open a simple JSON file. It failed with the error: "Password protected files are not supported." The file was a simple JSON file, not password protected at all.
