Overview
The free "simple" check only looks for common style and statistical issues and can take up to 20-30 seconds to complete.

The paid "pro" grammar and style check requires a lot more resources and can take even up to 1 minute.

Proofread Bot did not catch a grammar or style error? Submit it here http://proofreadbot.com/node/add/text !

Plagiarism checks use search engines to find duplicates and require a pro package and your Bing or Google search API key. You can enter API keys at http://proofreadbot.com/user where you can also see how to obtain such keys.

You can see the list of rules at http://proofreadbot.com/rules. The number of grammar rules constantly increase, and you can suggest new ones in the support forum or at info@proofreadbot.com.

If you like the plugin, please rate it and buy a package to support further development.

I think this piece of software is largely unnecessary. Not because it pretty much misses completely obvious mistakes (such as capitalizing first letters), or because it tries to suggest completely unnecessary (and sometimes even straight up wrong edits), but rather because it completely ignores the simple yet important errors with an overdone effort to impress you with some obscure English grammar rule... that actually turns out to be completely wrong in the context. Where Oxford dictionary says 'You do not need,' proofread bot will say 'Must.' (I'm talking about the error 'No Comma Before Restrictive Relative Clause' (Which is actually completely wrong because no comma is optional, not mandatory)) See? It's this kind of complete and utter bullshit that makes this add-on just complete crap. If you want something simple to check your It's vs Its, you aren't getting that here. Just some bullshit add-on that tries to [incorrectly] change your sentences to completely different garbage. While I understand that the creator of the app wants you to put improvements in his program, to miss the most obvious of errors in favor of some obscure (and wrongly implemented) bullshit is completely inexcuable. I'm not going out of my way to make a report about how you need to capitalize the first word in a sentence. Just an example: (An Original Sentence) Now that I know how to read… (After Proofread Bot) Now, that I know how to read… Issues: Issue Now Explanation A Conjunctive Adverb must be followed by a comma if you position it at the beginning of the sentence to indicate result, concession, apposition, addition, time, contrast, summary, or reinforcement. Issue First and Second Person Explanation The more formal the writing, the more you should avoid using first and second person. Suggested Changes Proofread Bot has no suggestion for this issue since you may need to rewrite this part of your text. See this bullshit? It's trying to tell me not to write in first person! But what about the 'Ignore' button you ask? Do you know how many times I use the word 'I' in a first person story? You want me to click ignore for all 270 of your bullshit 'errors?' Thanks, but no thanks. Take my one star and return whence you came: the garbage bin.

I made a point to use horrible grammar. "I done seen that the app Gramarley is much best." Unless an alien from the animated movie, "Home", the mistakes are glaring. The only error found was concern over my usage of first person. No use whatsoever.

Tried it; removed it. Why? 1. It doesn't check grammar, just some simple statistical metrics (short sentence!). For example, it did not flag "I took the Coke off the table and drunk it". 2. It flags the same error repetitively (short sentence!) 3. When it finds a sentence shorter than 7 words, it flags an error, over and over. (short sentence!) 4. It is set for semi-formal English only, and will flag either very formal or academic English, or informal, colloquial writing. 5. In short, it found none of the errors I hoped it would find. Mostly, it found the same *short sentences*, again and again.

I honestly don't understand the hatred towards this add on... It does what it is intended to do, find simple and obvious grammar errors

Useless. My weakest writers could find more errors and make more revisions than this. I wouldn't consider paying for the so-called "pro" version.

If you really think that proof-reading tools should be on par with your "weakest writers" (regardless of how you'd even quantify that), then I guess you've missed the point in its entirety. It's a free service that will try and catch obvious and statistically relevant errors, which it does within minutes I might add. Show me your best writer correcting 30 pages within an hour, it simply won't happen. You are such a shining example for professionals who don't really bother exploring the technology surrounding them, which ultimately is your problem to carry with you. I get it, it gets daunting, but it's still a shitty attitude you're giving someone who put in enough effort into something potentially helping you out. And here's the kicker: you didn't help at all. You didn't put forward any suggestions or feedback and just left him dangling, hoping someone else will program a free solution that will work as well as Mari's keyboard-slaves. Might want to reconsider your unfriendly demeanor.

Thanks for being so "kind"! Care to give some examples of errors that your so called "weakest writers" found?
