Overview
Save Emails is an email backup and archiving tool for Gmail that lets you automatically download email messages and file attachments from Gmail to Google Drive. You can also save email messages in shared Google Drives.

The email threads are converted into high-quality print-ready PDF files while the file attachments are saved to Google Drive in their original native format.

You can use the Gmail archiver to backup important emails, video files, timesheets, photos, Microsoft Office documents, travel receipts, expenses, and other emails easily from Gmail to your Google Drive permanently. The app works with Gmail and GSuite (Google Apps) accounts.

Check the help manual at https://digitalinspiration.com/docs/GA02 to know more about the capabilities of Save Emails addon.

Attorneys have used Save Emails to download and print all email correspondence related to litigations with few clicks. Teachers can download student assignments in respective student folders automatically. Corporate users can save Uber receipts for claiming expenses. Sellers can archive PayPal invoices and payment receipts as PDFs.

The app runs in the background, once every hour, but you also have an option to run the rules manually. Go to Add-ons > Saves Emails and Attachments > Manage Rules and select any rule from the dropdown to download the matching emails.

How to Use Save Emails with Gmail
---------------------------------

To get started with Save Gmail, use the built-in wizard to create a rule and any email messages in Gmail that match this rule will be automatically saved to a specific folder in your Google Drive. You can organize the saved emails in date-based subfolders to avoid cluttering the main folder.

Unlike email automation solutions like IFTTT or Zapier only work on new and incoming messages, the Save Emails add-on can also download old emails to your Google Drive. All the activity is logged inside a Google Spreadsheet for quick search and reference.

For instance, you can have a rule where emails from Expedia and Trip Advisor are automatically saved to the Travel folder in your Google Drive. Or a rule where all emails with "backup" in the subject line are saved to the project folder in Google Drive. If you are running out of space in your Gmail account, you can set up a rule for message size, and all emails with large attachments are saved to Drive.

Download Gmail - Advanced Uses
------------------------------

You can customize the file names of saved emails and attachments with variables. For instance, you can set the attachment name as {{Sender}} {{Subject}} to include the sender's name and the email subject in the attachment file name.

You can also choose to overwrite files in Google Drive if an attachment with a similar name already exists in the same folder. Google Drive allows you to have multiple files with a similar name in the same folder.

Free vs Premium
---------------

The add-on is free and fully functional. Premium version includes several extract features including:

1. Create an unlimited number of rules for downloading Gmail messages to Google Drive.
2. Emails are saved every 15 minutes while the free edition downloads emails once every hour.
3. Rename PDF files and email attachments based on the email subject, sender or date.
4. Save emails in separate folders based on the email headers.
5. Skip downloading smaller files.
6. Allow or disallow saving of file attachments of specific types.
7. Overwrite existing Google Drive files (useful for keeping a single copy of disk backups)
8. Specify your own custom formats for printing dates in PDF files.
9. Save PDF files in your own Drive folder or a Team Drive folder owned by another user in the organization.
10. Download file attachments and emails in Google Shared Team Drive folders.

Hey, would be possible to get an option to be able to set a name for the attachment? Use case: I get a daily report from a CRM system with a an csv attachment which is timestamped. Example name: "report20160226.csv". I would like to call it only "Report.csv" and overwrite the file name every day whenever the report comes...

I have been using this for over a year. The earlier version used to work beautifully. The new version needed a few attempts to get it to work - but Amit was extremely prompt in his replies (within a few hours). His inputs immediately fixed the issue. And I haven't even bought the premium version yet! Love this add-on.

Loved the idea of this, since I really need it right now for a specific project BUT I've been unable to choose a folder in drive so Im rather stuck there unfortunately. When I try the spinning wheel shows up indefinitely...

Looks like a really useful add-on, but, a question... I use a corporate Gmail installation, which doesn't allow me to install the add-on. I would like to have content from emails in that account sent out to folders on my own Google Drive. Is it possible to do this? Could I perhaps forward the corporate account emails out to my personal Gmail account, and then run the add-on from within that account? Or is there some other work-around that you can suggest? Many thanks for what looks like a great utility. If I can get it working, I'll be going for the premium version, for sure.

THis app worked beautifully for me until April 2016. I went to check it last night as I needed the information that should be in the file and noticed it had stopped working. My guess is user error, script change or something that this not exactly script savvy user is understanding. THis is the message I see: 25-01 16:50:37 Rule #856c1aaa7e0b82e435e336ae8febfa21 processed and 0 emails were saved 25-01 17:44:18 [Error] Exception: We're sorry, a server error occurred. Please wait a bit and try again. 4/3/2016 10:44:14 [Error] Exception: Authorization is required to perform that action. Please run the script again to authorize it. I am unsure how to re-authorize it. Thanks for the tool.

Quite useful for archiving past 5 years of email and attachments into offline storage while freeing up space. The new ability to include the message date as part of the saved filename {{MessageDate}}{{AttachmentName}} is of interest and something I will like to include going forward (for both the emails which are saved using subject as filename in pdf format and the attachments with their original names and filetypes.

The application had a bug in it. I emailed Amit for a response, and he responded at first but, when the issue did not resolve, stopped responding to my emails and never fixed the problem. DO NOT BUY THIS!
