Overview
Save Emails is a Gmail Archiving add-on to help you download email messages and file attachments from Gmail to Google Drive. The email threads are converted into high-quality print-ready PDF files while the file attachments are saved in their original format in Google Drive.

You can use the Gmail archiver to backup important emails, video files, large images, Microsoft Office documents, travel receipts and other emails easily from Gmail to your Google Drive. It works with Gmail, Google Inbox and G Suite (or Google Apps) accounts.

Attorneys have used Save Emails to download and print all email correspondence related to a litigation with few clicks. Teachers can download student assignments in respective folders automatically. Corporate users can save Uber receipts for claiming expenses. Sellers can archive PayPal invoices and payment receipts as PDFs.

To get started, use the built-in wizard to create a rule and any email message in Gmail that matches this rule will be saved to a specific folder in your Google Drive. Unlike email automation solutions like IFTTT or Zapier that only work on new and incoming messages, the Save Emails add-on can also send old emails to your Google Drive. All the activity is logged inside a Google Spreadsheet for quick search and reference.

Check the documentation at https://bitly.com/SaveGmailTutorials to know more about capabilities of Save Emails addon.

For instance, you can have a rule where emails from Expedia and Trip Advisor are automatically saved to the Travel folder in your Google Drive. Or a rule where all emails with "backup" in the subject line are saved to the project folder in Google Drive. If you are running out of space in your Gmail account, you can setup a rule for message size and all emails with large attachments are saved to Drive.

The program runs in the background, once every hour, but you also have an option to run the rules manually. Go to Add-ons > Saves Emails and Attachments > Manage Rules and select any rule from the dropdown to process it immediately.

You can save the email messages and the included file attachments to your Drive. You can organize the saved emails in date-based sub folders to avoid cluttering the main folder.

It is now possible to customize the file names of saved emails and attachments with variables. For instance, you can put attachment name {{Sender}} {{Subject}} {{AttachmentName}} to include the sender's name and the email subject in the attachment file name.

You can also choose to overwrite files in Google Drive if an attachment with a similar name already exists in the same folder. Google Drive allows you to have multiple files with a similar name in the same folder.

The add-on is free and fully functional. If you however upgrade to the premium version of Save Emails, you get extra features including:

1. Create unlimited number of rules for downloading Gmail messages to Google Drive.
2. Emails are saved at a faster rate (every 15 minutes while the free edition downloads emails once every hour)
3. You get free email support for 90 days.
4. Rename PDF files and email attachments based on the email subject, sender or date.
5. Save emails in separate folders based on the email meta data.
6. Allow or disallow saving of file attachments of specific types
7. Overwrite existing Google Drive files (useful for keeping a single copy of disk backups)
8. Specify your own custom formats for printing dates in PDF files.
9. Save PDF files in your own Drive folder or a shared folder owned by another user in the organization.

To upgrade to premium, go to Add-ons menu - Save Emails - Upgrade to Premium. Or visit the link http://gum.co/GA02 (multiple seat licenses are available for Google Apps domains as well)

Worked BRILLIANTLY for me! I wanted to save a selection of files attached to old emails. I couldn't find anything else that looked like it would do what I wanted but I was a little reluctant to install this given the negative comments. I had no problems it just worked. I think it was worthwhile watching the "how to video". Thanks Amit.

Love it. I get daily corporate emails with a PDF attached and this saves those to a folder I created. Awesome.

trying to save emails in a date range. Something went wrong. It seems to flag emails that have already been saved once. there's no way to resave a set of emails, not even uninstalling & reinstalling

Functional enough once you figure out all the quirks - but VERY unclear how to make it so that an email is "eligible" for saving again that the Saved tag (which gets added automatically after you save to the Drive) must be removed.

will not rerun a particular rule, even if you modify it.. does not compile emails with the same subject, just dumps every single email as a separate file.

THis app worked beautifully for me until April 2016. I went to check it last night as I needed the information that should be in the file and noticed it had stopped working. My guess is user error, script change or something that this not exactly script savvy user is understanding. THis is the message I see: 25-01 16:50:37 Rule #856c1aaa7e0b82e435e336ae8febfa21 processed and 0 emails were saved 25-01 17:44:18 [Error] Exception: We're sorry, a server error occurred. Please wait a bit and try again. 4/3/2016 10:44:14 [Error] Exception: Authorization is required to perform that action. Please run the script again to authorize it. I am unsure how to re-authorize it. Thanks for the tool.

Doesn't work efficiently. Won't overwrite files (even though they are called the same). No ability to just pick excel docs or just pictures or word documents. All i want is to be able to save an excel attachment in Google Drive (without the google document id changing). It has potential if executed correctly

really frustrating tool. Does not work with threaded conversation, 'skips' top attachments and is no reliable. Using pro edition. Contacted developer for support but got no response.

This used to be absolutely awesome, but now only runs manually for me.

I guess you can run IFTTT as well to catch the new ones.

Exactly! I wanted to write the same comment. Did you find an alternative solution already? If you have to run it manually then it loses it's point.
