Well all I get is error after error as soon as I sign into it. Didn't do anything yet, it just jams with error codes and I can't proceed. Turned off ad blocking, didn't help. Maybe it a different extension bothering it, but I'm not bothering to figure it out. (Uninstalling now.) Man it's hard to find a good extension of any kind these days. I mean they are like one in 100 it seems. Way too much junk and broken stuff to sort through.

It's possible that this is a good tool, but a good tool with HORRIBLE documentation is basically useless. Here's my experience: I'm on my Google Drive, and I would like to create a Java document. So I install Shift Edit, and then it puts me into a pretty good Java editor. Great. Then I try to save my work, and it tells me that I have to create a Site first. What??? I'm in Google Drive. I don't want a site, I want to save the Java file that I just created into my Google Drive, and it's asking me about Sites. What the heck is it talking about? I'm not making a web site, I'm editing a Java file. But one of the options for "Site" seems to be GDrive. I got to Shift Edit from my GDrive. Why isn't that the default? Anyway, I try to click on GDrive, and it tells me that there's an error. I have to disconnect from my Google Drive. What? Okay. I do that, and now Shift Edit is uninstalled. This is absolutely going in circles. What a piece of junk. Somebody spent many hours creating this software. Can't they spend 5 minutes documenting how it's supposed to work? Horrible, horrible, horrible.

Great ide - but has discontinued free version, so i'm looking elsewhere. UPDATE: i've now looked elsewhere and after extensive research i've discovered: 1. this is by far the best online editor for chrome (in fact, it's the only one i can find with builtin ftp and full wysiwyg design features) 2. the developer is extraordinarily responsive and helpful and bends over backwards to fix problems and accommodate requests for new features (not something i could ever say about dreamweaver) 3. it's great value and i will henceforth be subscribing!

[Disclosure: I am not affiliated with ShiftEdit or any of its employees in any way.] Wanted to counterbalance all the negative reviews here and mention that I had a perfect experience with ShiftEdit. I was connecting to my WPEngine site through SFTP; once I entered all the login information (hint: if your root directory has no name, simply use "/"), I got connected with no problem and was able to edit files through the company's clever online editor. It's certainly not an IDE I would use full-time (I use Git and SublimeText on my main home desktop), but is great for my Chromebook when I'm on the go and need to make some fast quick changes and can't run standalone apps. I find that worth 6 bucks a month, although apparently a lot of others disagree.

I've lost count of the number of browser based editors I've tried and was almost of the verge of saying f#@%-it and giving up, when I came across ShiftEdit. Now I have to admit it's not perfect... YET! But it is most certainly the best I've tried in Chrome. It's very easy to use, the UI is clean and simple and I just like using it... I think it's idea for people like me who are not hardcore programmers or who have a static website and want to be able to make changes with the least amount of hassle. 4 stars, 2 thumbs up - looking forward to the next version.

Coming from using a combination of Notepad++ and various browsers as my not-so-integrated development environment, ShiftEdit is exactly what I need to keep me working while using my Chromebook on the road. This is a great, feature-rich tool, and in a lot of ways feels more solid than expensive IDE solutions like Adobe Dreamweaver -- plus, you can use it anywhere with an internet connection! I'm sure I'll be using ShiftEdit whenever I'm on the go. Thanks for making such a solid product!

I have been using this for almost a year. It's good, really good. I am impressed with how far browser apps have come and this one is so well done I actually feel that someday developers will be able to have a mostly cloud based computer, like a Chromebook.....well, as soon as Adobe catches up anyway...:-). Good job!
